Firecracker Run

Belle Fourche, South Dakota

What fun!!!  On the 4th of July 2016 Jack and I ran a 5k in small town, USA.  My cousin lives in the South Dakota town of Belle Fourche- population 5,000.  Three blocks from her house is Hermann Park.  Each 4th of July they host a 5k prior to the town parade (which is HUGE for the area!).  Jack and I were thrilled to run this since the town has such personal meaning for us.  It was also our 1st out of state race!

The 5k/10k had approximately 114 participants and ran through the streets (and HILLS) of the town.  None of the streets were blocked off to traffic so occassionally you had to watch for cars.  The course markings consisted of small signs on sticks and chalk on the street!  The unmanned water station was a jug of water that you poured yourself which sat on a table next to a baseball field (I wish I had gotten a picture of that!).  When you crossed the "finish line" you were handed a popsicle stick that had your place on it.  You reported to a table so they could record your number.

We had a ball, and if we visit South Dakota on the 4th again we will definietly race again!
